KAI Properti Supports the Development of the Jatinegara Heavy Mechanical Depot to Improve Railway Operational Efficiency

Jakarta, July 21, 2025 – KAI Properti, a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), is actively involved in the planning and development of railway operational facilities by completing the revitalization project of the former Jatinegara Locomotive Depot into a Heavy Mechanical Depot equipped with underfloor tracks and additional lines.

This project is part of KAI Properti's commitment to supporting the optimization of national railway assets and infrastructure, particularly in terms of heavy machinery maintenance such as MTT and PBR.

“Through this revitalization, we are providing underpass tracks and new tracks that enable faster, safer, and more integrated repair, maintenance, and refueling processes for engines,” said Acting Corporate Secretary of KAI Properti, Ramdhani Subagja.

Integrated Facilities to Support Operations

The development of the Heavy Mechanical Depot includes:

  • The addition of Track 8 from the Jatinegara yard to the depot area via the installation of Switch 101 from Track 7.
  • New under-track facilities that allow machinery maintenance to be conducted from below for time and labor efficiency.
  • A stabling area for MTT machines, bringing units closer to the work site to expedite repairs during emergencies.
  • A fuel (HSD) refueling facility to directly support operational needs on-site.

With the introduction of this facility, maintenance activities such as PBR, CSM, and MTT repairs will be more centralized, supporting the mobilization of heavy equipment and minimizing the potential for operational delays.

Commitment to KAI Operational Support

KAI Properti consistently prioritizes its strategic role as an asset manager and provider of quality-based construction services. This project is a tangible manifestation of KAI Properti's role in supporting KAI's core business and ensuring that supporting infrastructure functions at its maximum capacity.

“The development of the Jatinegara Heavy Mechanical Depot is not only about optimizing assets but also a strategy to create a more efficient, safe, and sustainable work environment for all railway personnel,” added Ramdhani.

Going forward, KAI Properti will continue to provide infrastructure solutions that support KAI's operations while strengthening its role in reliable property management and construction services within the KAI Group.

Stop for a Moment When Crossing the Railway Crossing for Mutual Safety

Stop for a Moment when Crossing the Railway Crossing for Mutual Safety

Every driver must stop for a moment when crossing a railroad crossing. Simple actions such as paying attention to signs, looking left-right, and waiting for the crossing bar to open are a real form of concern for the safety of yourself and others.

Unfortunately, there are still many drivers who ignore this rule to save time, without realizing the great danger that lurks. The reason is that trains require a long distance and braking time to come to a complete stop. When vehicles break through the crossing, the potential for accidents becomes very high and fatal.

The role of the Crossing Guard (PJL) at each railway crossing is very important in securing train travel. The safety of road users at crossings depends on the level of compliance of road users to comply with traffic signs and warning signals at crossings.

KAI Properti, as the entity that manages a number of crossing facilities and provides several PJL officers in various regions, continues to emphasize the importance of compliance with safety rules. The presence of PJL officers is not a substitute for vigilance, but a complement to the safety system that still requires full awareness from road users.

"Safety is the top priority in the railway ecosystem. We encourage the public not to rush, but to take a few seconds to stop and make sure it is safe before crossing the tracks. This one small action can save many lives," said Plt. KAI Property Corporate Secretary, Ramdhani Subagja.

Rules related to safety at level crossings have also been regulated in Law Number 23 of 2007 concerning Railways Article 124 which reads:

"At a level crossing between a railway line and a road, road users are obliged to give precedence to train travel."

Meanwhile, Law Number 22 Year 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation Article 114 emphasizes:

"Vehicle drivers are required to stop when the signal has sounded, the crossbar has begun to close, and/or there are other signals."

KAI Properti invites the entire community not to ignore signs, not to cross the crossbar, and to make safety a culture in every trip. Because behind one decision to stop for a moment, there is a safe train journey.

Kind regards,

Acting Corporate Secretary of KAI Properti
